Jorge’s Dream
Jorge always dreamed of opening his own restaurant. His love of good food and cooking was inspired by his mother Berta, back home in his native Portugal. For Jorge it was a time of family get-togethers, fun, laughs, happy memories and delicious food. Sadly, Berta passed away when Jorge was 21, but she’d be proud to know her legacy continues with her son, and his passion for bringing people together to enjoy quality food, wine, and good company.
Jorge forged a career in the hospitality industry, learning more about food and wine traveling the world on a 6-star cruise ship, where he worked as a sommelier. This is where he met his Norwich born wife Eleanor. After 14 years in Portugal they moved to Norwich and in one week Jorge’s life-long dream will finally come true.
The Head Chef
The search for our perfect Head Chef was a long one. We certainly didn’t expect to find a Portuguese chef, also named Jorge, who was brought up in the same area of Portugal (Bairrada) as Jorge the owner – but coincidentally that’s exactly what happened. Head Chef Jorge is highly experienced, having run restaurants large and small for many years. He also shares owner Jorge’s passion for amazing food, wines, and customer service, so was the perfect choice.
Beautiful Food
One look at the mouth-watering food and you’ll know you don’t need to be Portuguese to enjoy eating at Jorge’s. There is, however, a definite Mediterranean feel and flavour to the menu. Ham, Octopus, and fish dishes are starters. Entrees include Clams with lime, Shrimps with Garlic, flame grilled Tiger Prawns, Chorizo, Pork, and of course PiriPiri Chicken. Some of the desserts are Chocolate Mousse and Brandy, Almond Tart with Lavender Ice Cream, and who wouldn’t want to taste the tantalising sounding Orange crème brulée with Medronho fire-water? Plant based options are also available so there’s something at Jorge’s for everyone.

Quality Wines
Portugal is well-known worldwide as a country that offers a large range of excellent quality wines. Jorge has used his vast experience as a sommelier to put together a completely Portuguese wine list for your enjoyment – plus he can give you expert advice on which wines compliment the various dishes.

The Restaurant
We stumbled upon the premises by accident and fell in love with it right away. It’s the perfect size, with just the right feel and ambience, so we’re so excited to be opening tomorrow. For those of you who are unsure where to find us it’s the former Orford Flat Iron Steakhouse in Orford Yard, off Red Lion Street, Norwich. We’re right opposite Debenhams and to the left of John Oliver’s hairdressers and Barclays Bank. If you were a regular patron of the Orford Flat Iron we’d love to see you at Jorge’s too!
Bookings
